If you dislike mountains of text though stay away from the game because you'll actually have to read what npcs say, I know some people are voice over freaks.
Its a pretty cool concept and fun so far, you can even set your creations intelligence to 0 and pump everything else up but it will be mindless and you'll have no control over it.

Thru out the game you evidently learn how to create different types of creatures and can improve upon them based on your magic skills. Creatures can join your party as party members so you can create hp heavy melee ones or quick, ranged ones etc. Shaping is the most interesting thing of the game, you can create creatures and spend your magic/mana points (which you perm lose as long as the creation is still alive) to set the abilities of the creature. You arent locked in, you warrior can cast *some* spells for example just not going to have the mana pool to cast alot without resting. There are 6 classes each with strengths/weakness in melee, magic and shaping. Depending on dex/action points controls who moves first and for how far. What I mean is how do classes and combat work? Is it turn based?Turn based, Balder's Gate/Fallout style.you get attacked or attack and you go into "combat mode". If you like DND and/or played 2nd edition modules you would like FRUA as its best modules are all true to the material conversions.Įdit: these avernum games look interesting, trying 5. Had previously tried Eschalon another old school rpg from Basilisk but while I can tolerate dated graphics for gameplay I cant tolerate being locked into 800圆00 resolution which makes the game look blurry and crap on my widescreen and laptop. for anyone interested in d/ling the demo. Going to play it thru and see if it keeps that quality and then maybe look at the Avernum games but anyone looking for old school rpg should try it, the demo for it is really long by modern standards to give you a good glimpse of the game plus only 28 bucks which is dirt cheap now a days. So far my impression is wow, yes the graphics are "horrible" by even bad graphics standard today but its old school tile based but the gameplay is thus far absolutely topnotch and story is shaping up to be really, really good. Anyway so I was bored and have been tempted to try these games for awhile now so I bit the bullet and bought Geneforge 5 which is the newest one that just came out.
